Day 17 (24 miles) Hatch to Bryce, UT
For me, Day 17 began in the desert town of St. George, where I was scheduled to get a new cast for my broken wrist. Normally people don't get their casts changed in the middle of their treatment, but I am definitely not a normal case. Just picture 3 weeks of sweating for 8 hours or more, followed by hanging out in the dirt. It was time for a change.
Unfortunately, my new cast has my thumb in a different position that prevents me from doing as much with it. I can still cycle so that is all that really matters. I did get one new feature that will come in handy however, it's waterproof! Now I can go swimming and take a shower as I please, and the sweat won't hang around inside the cast as long.
After getting my cast changed, we headed back to meet the ESCAA team in Bryce Canyon National Park. While we were there, we went on an incredible hike through the canyon. I was not expecting Bryce to be so spectacular. It was truly amazing. We traveled through narrow slots, around towering rock structures, and saw beautiful high elevation plateaus.
