Day 3 (100 miles) San Leandro to Davis, CA
Today we reached a new milestone in our journey across America, our first century ride of the trip (100 Miles).
Knowing that we had a long ride to accomplish today, we awoke in San Leandro bright and early at 5:30 am, and immediately began packing up. We departed at 7:15 and preceded to stroll through the streets of Oakland. When we finally left the city we were greeted by a 1,600 foot climb up Grizzly Peak, followed by a speedy descent.
For the next 50 miles, we went up, then down, then up, then down, then up, then down, until we had covered the hills bordering the Bay Area and entered the wonderfully flat Central Valley.

After a quick lunch break, we traveled through the beautiful California countryside until we were met by riders from the Davis Bike Club. These riders escorted us into the quaint town of Winters where they supplied us with popsicles and cold drinks. Then they lead us the last 14 miles of our ride into the college town of Davis, CA.
One of the highlights of the day was dinner, and not just because were starving. Dinner today was hosted by 3 different Davis scout troops. They had all come out to meet us and support what we were doing. It was very special to have these scouts, that didn't know us, make such a nice dinner and socialize with us. It was an experience that I will never forget and I am excited to meet troops like this all the way across the country!
Davis Scout Troops 11,139 and 466 hosted a huge dinner!
