Day 42 (64 miles) Marshfield to Houston, MO
Today we went on a beautiful 64 mile ride through the Missouri countryside from Marshfield to Houston. I was not expecting Missouri to be so beautiful! The rolling hills and green farmland were very scenic.
One interesting sight we came across during the ride was an Amish community up in the hills. We rode past a barn-raising that was going on where the Amish men were standing up on the roof frame hammering away. When you combined that with the horse and buggies that we passed and the picturesque countryside, it felt like we had ridden back in time.
Compared to our long stretch of 100+ mile rides, 64 miles now seems like a breeze. We arrived in Houston before lunch and had the rest of the afternoon to relax. A few of us walked into the downtown for ice cream and then returned to our room and rested our tired legs. It felt like we had a little bit of a break, though I doubt a year ago I would have ever considered a day on which I rode a bike 60 miles to be restful.
