Day 44 (62 miles) As far as riding across the country goes, today was relatively uneventful. We rode 62 miles from Ellington to Silva, MO. Although the hills were not as steep today, it was definitely still as hot as it was yesterday, and yesterday was HOT. The humidity doesn't help either. We all sweat so much, anything we sit on is completely soaked when we get up.
The heat aside, we have had a relaxing past few days. We get up early, around 5 AM or so, ride until around lunchtime, then relax in our hotels. We have been staying in hotels for a while now because it would miserable to be sleeping outside without air conditioning. It is still in the 80's when we go to bed every night, and the same when we wake up. We wouldn't sleep very well outside, and not sleeping doesn't bode well with waking up early and biking 70 miles.
In the next few days we will be crossing into Illinois and riding over the Mississippi River. We also have a well-anticipated rest day coming up in Metropolis, IL in two days. There should be some fun-filled experiences to look forward to and my mom and sister will also be flying in to join us again.
